Human Peace Sign and Karaoke @ Kitchener City Hall
Oct 2 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Now on 2 October 2017, the UN International Day of Nonviolence

A tradition since 2007, WR Nonviolence celebrates the UN International Day of Peace by having people form a giant peace sign! We’ll sing some songs of peace, led by the WR Nonviolence regulars. Don’t know the words? It’ll be Karaoke, so you can follow along on the screen. Can’t sing? Then you can dance. Can’t dance? Then come just to enjoy an evening of peace, nonviolence, and being with like-minded people.

Note: This year we’re celebrating on UN International Day of Nonviolence, Monday, 2 October 2017.

Anthropology for Social Activists @ 1st Floor Boardroom, Waterloo Public Library
Jan 13 @ 9:45 am – 11:45 am

Human brain labelled with attributes (Ideality, Sublimity, Cautiousness, &c.) You are invited to attend the first lecture of a series “Anthropology for Social Activists”.

The word ‘anthropology’ covers all the disciplines related to humans both as individuals and as society.

  • Linguistics, semiotics and neuro-linguistic programming
  • general biology, the second signal system, psychology from Freud and Jung, egregores and Mind model
  • elocutive, formal and dialectical logics, taxonomy of intellectual implements on both individual and group scale
  • ontology, metaphysics, methodology and science, the material of society, power and related stuff, the science of governing and the laws of controlling, mind axioms

This is a very short list of topics to discuss. Yet each of these topics is something that we use when we ponder on deciding which way our society is going, how to assess the recent moves of the Canadian government, and what would be the best options for our communities.

My objective is to present a whole set of knowledge organized in a way that will help the participants make educated, very well grounded decisions with their efforts as social activists.

The pre-requisite for the course (bring in your dream of a social change) will help us focus on the practical outcome of all the theories and approaches in use; we will discuss what we learn.

Learning is not easy, it requires a special kind of effort. Your personal determination to make our social actions full of sense and good purpose will certainly help to overcome the learning difficulties and create the joy of breaking through intellectual barriers.

The first event is scheduled for
When: Saturday, 13 January 2017 from 9:45am to 11:45am
Where: Waterloo Public Library Boardroom (first floor, near kids quarters)
Location: 35 Albert Street, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Map

Anthropology for Social Activists: Science and Language @ Boardroom, Waterloo Public Library
Feb 10 @ 9:45 am – 11:45 am

Human brain labelled with attributes (Ideality, Sublimity, Cautiousness, &c.) You are invited to attend the second lecture of a series “Anthropology for Social Activists”.

At this time I would love to start with reviewing the major features of Science while paying special attention to the set of thinking tools associated with it.

Based on those distinctions one should be able to evaluate any theory or academic paper and determine if it really is scientific.

There is a concern though: do we really need to go that deep in theory? There are many scientists or people involved into scientific activities who do not know that much about science. My plan is to address this concern as well.

While discussing Science we have to know more about our special intellectual efforts. This raises the need to look into thinking tools taxonomy. Yet even before that we’ll have to learn about how animals developed their consciousness, what it is, and how it works.

The next step after consciousness is the mechanics of human language abilities.

Basically these are the two major topics for the next lecture: emergence of animal consciousness and its conversion into human speech consciousness.

As per the social projects I’ve been asking about: my personal social dream is to declare the Region of Waterloo a drug free zone. Free not only from fentanyl but from tobacco and alcohol as well. The opioid crisis is looming right in our neighbourhood… The data regarding the crisis in 2017:

Opioid calls, deaths still on rise despite incoming initiatives | KitchenerPost.ca

Please, send me couple lines about your personal social project.

The second event is scheduled for Saturday, 10 February 2018 at Waterloo Public Library, 35 Albert Street Map in the Boardroom (first floor, near kids quarters). Starts at 9:45 am, finish 11:45 am.

See you there,

Human Peace Sign — #IDOPAN — REPLACED by Supplemental Discussion
Sep 21 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

This event has been replaced by the Supplemental Discussion on Finding Peace

Human Peace Sign
Human Peace Sign

Every year WR Nonviolence celebrates the International Day Of Peace by making a human peace sign.

There will be a Peace Song Singalong, reading inspirational messages written by leaders of the Peace Movement such as Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi, and, of course, people working together to display the international symbol for peace.

Supplemental Discussion: Finding Peace — #IDOPAN @ Coffee Culture at the Walper Hotel
Sep 21 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Human Peace Sign Instead of creating a Human Peace Sign this year, WR Nonviolence will be holding a “Supplemental” Discussion Night — supplementary to our regular meetings.

We’ll meet at the Coffee Culture coffee shop in the Walper Hotel at the corner of King Street and Queen Street in downtown Kitchener. Map

Discussion will be wide-ranging: How can we implement a Personal Peace? How can we implement Global Peace? What can we do to overcome the obstructions that prevent Peace?

If time permits, we may form a Human Peace Sign to commemorate the International Day of Peace logoInternational Day of Peace.

This year we’re partnering with Bobcat Bartolo and the Liberation, who will again be recognizing the International Day of Peace on 21 September as part of Peace Week, with another installment of An Evening of Peace. This year Bobcat Bartolo is teaming up with Rhythm & Brews Brewing Company, and we’ll be releasing more details as we move closer to the day.
