September 21st is the International Day of Peace. Why post that today? What should we post tomorrow? WR Nonviolence thinks there are so many days to recognize such as the end of war, the birth of advocates for peace and nonviolence, so why do we pick today?
We do it because 21 September is a recognized day. We pick various days to mobilize human beings. There is more to do than hold a sign or make a blog post to make a difference, which is why we hold events to bring together people to talk, face challenges, overcome resistance, identify important roles. But on the Internet those messages just get sucked up into the ether, and are not so useful or effective.
The Covid pandemic has really limited the work that we can do to build, spread the word, and create the conditions to ensure Peace, Nonviolence, and the things that bring us all together. We hope to be back with Day In The Park next year.
We believe that a nonviolent economic system is one that shifts the focus from profit by large multi- national corporations and individual wealth gained by exploitation of the individual to a system that treats the individual fairly with the result of a non victimized work force.
Stakeholders in a nonviolent economic system would not be treated as a commodity but rather as valued partners in the distribution of monetary exchanges.
Things are still uncertain in this time of Covid, but we at WR Nonviolence are hopeful that we’ll resume our annual Day In The Park in September of 2021.
The City of Kitchener has not yet determined if outdoor events in the Summer or Fall will take place, but we’re following their announcements closely, and we’ll let everyone know when things are happening.

Your WR Nonviolence Day In The Park Planning Team.
We regret announcing that our 16th Nonviolence Day in the Park will be cancelled. We felt that there is too much uncertainty in the coming weeks and months.
WR Nonviolence continues to meet virtually every Tuesday to plan our way forward. Contact us if you’d like to join the discussion – how can we communicate the importance of nonviolence during our current pandemic?
